Program of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany at Café Kyiv
The Ukrainian Institute in Germany is organizing two panel discussions at Café Kyiv in Colosseum Berlin (Schönhauser Allee 123) on March 11. It is also supporting the sculpture exhibition by Ukrainian artists, organized by the Serpen Gallery, as well as the screening of the film “Malevych” about the Ukrainian artist Kasymyr Malevych.

This year, the Ukrainian Institute in Germany has prepared two panel discussions, which will take place as part of Café Kyiv on 11 March:
Panel discussion 1: “Soft Power, Hard Agenda: Russia’s Cultural Diplomacy and Influence Strategies in Germany”

Description: This panel discussion presents the key findings of the study ‘Russian Cultural Diplomacy in Germany: Actors, Narratives and Successes’, which was conducted by the Ukrainian Institute.

Description: How can the guilt of survival be transformed into meaningful action? This panel highlights the role of culture in resilience and activism in times of war. Drawing on a range of perspectives, personal and professional responses to war will be discussed, from cultural initiatives to veteran-led projects.
Sculpture Exhibition
Sculptures by contemporary Ukrainian artists will be on display throughout the event at Café Kyiv. Works by three artists will be shown: Vitalii Shupliak (“Modules of Unity”), Oleksii Zolotar (“Geometric Archaic”), and Yaroslav Kusch (“Dreieckstütze“). Serpen Gallery is organising the exhibition with the support of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany.
Film screening “Malevych”

Description: The creative team will introduce the film before the screening. After the screening, there will be a Q&A with the film’s director Daria Onyshchenko, and creative producer Tetyana Filevska. The historical drama “Malevych” shows a kaleidoscope of events from the life of the world-famous Ukrainian artist Kasymyr Malevych, who fought against the Soviet authorities for the right to create ‘free’ art.

Music concert „CODE. Liatoshynskyi“

Description: The pianist and researcher Kateryna-Sofia Shyk will give a lecture on Ukrainian musical heritage with a special focus on the Ukrainian composer Borys Ljatoschynskyj. She will also perform works by Borys Ljatoschynskyj and the German composer Johannes Brahms. Kateryna-Sofia Shyk’s work aims to raise awareness of Ljatoschynskyj’s works and place them in a global context.
