“Truth to Justice” Conference in Berlin

“Truth to Justice” conference will focus on addressing propaganda and cognitive resilience as well as modern instruments of disinformation. As part of the program, the Ukrainian Institute in Germany is co-organizing two workshops: “Fact-Checking” and “Shifting Narratives Using Social Media and Campaigning for Change.”

Guests: Ana Sârbu (Journalist and Communication Specialist) and Robert Putzbach (Journalist, F.A.Z.)

Moderation: Mariya Zoryk (Communication Manager of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany)

Robert Putzbach is a staff writer in the politics department of the Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (F.A.Z.). His main focus is on Eastern Europe. Since the beginning of the full-scale invasion he has been reporting primarily on and from Ukraine. He regularly travels to the country and writes reports from the ground. He was awarded the ‘n-ost Research Prize for Eastern Europe 2019’.

Ana Sârbu is a journalist, trainer, and teacher of journalism (diction) at Moldova State University and School of Journalism in Moldova. She has worked at various media platforms, including print, radio, online, and television, such as Gazeta de Chișinău, TV8, Agora, Unimedia, Jurnal TV, Timpul, and Cotidianul TV. Since 2015, she has spearheaded media projects focused on combating fake news, propaganda, and disinformation. In 2016, she was honored with the title of "Journalist of the Year". Ana is the creator of the CuMINTE podcast, hosted by the Independent Journalism Centre, where she addresses critical issues surrounding media literacy, security and information integrity.

Moderation: Kateryna Rietz-Rakul (Head of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany)

For those who cannot attend the conference personally, some of the events during the conference will be supported with a Livestream.

Alexej Hock is an investigative journalist currently working with CORRECTIV. His primary focus is on examining Russian influence in German politics and the far-right. Previously, he was a member of the investigative team at Die Welt. In 2016, he received the Grimme Online Award for his work on the project “Straßengezwitscher.”

Val Voshchevska is a multilingual digital strategist and content creator, originally from Ukraine, with extensive experience in media, social media, and audience engagement, bringing impact-led digital marketing to some of the world’s largest human rights organizations as well as local civil society initiatives. Most notably, she has spearheaded the Digital Team at Amnesty International, managing over 23 digital specialists as the Global Head of Digital Engagement. Prior to this she worked as the Global Social Media Editor for Newsweek Magazine after having graduated from KCL with an MA in International Conflict Studies. She is currently the Director of Communications for the London-based campaigning group Ukraine Solidarity Project.
