The Ukrainian Institute’s Programme at the 78th Frankfurter Buchmesse
All Ukrainian events at the Frankfurt Book Fair
From 7 to 11 October, the 78th Frankfurt Book Fair will take place in Frankfurt am Main. It is one of the most important international events in the publishing industry and a key platform for cultural diplomacy.
Participation in the trade fair
The National Stand of Ukraine is organised by the Ukrainian Book Institute and is located in Hall 3.1, Stand C13. It will feature books from 44 Ukrainian publishers, who will present their catalogues and new releases and hold meetings with international publishers and literary agents.
The publishing house Osnovy, winner of the Chytomo Award, will also have its own stand at the Frankfurt Book Fair. Mystetskyi Arsenal will be represented as well, with a stand in Hall 3.0, Stand H120, where it will present the focus theme of the 14th Book Arsenal: Bear Your Freedom.
Ukrainian Events Programme
Co-organisers and coordinators of the Ukrainian Events Programme are the Ukrainian Book Institute, Mystetskyi Arsenal, the Ukrainian Institute, the Goethe-Institut Ukraine and the Federal Agency for Civic Education. Individual events are also organised by Ukrainian publishers and a number of cultural organisations.
On the Ukrainian stage at the Frankfurt Book Fair, the programme will feature presentations of German translations of contemporary and classic Ukrainian literature, meetings with authors, and conversations about their new roles, new texts, responsibilities and the changing tasks of literature. Publishers and industry representatives will discuss the survival of the book market during the war and the consequences of Russia’s ongoing attacks on publishing infrastructure.
Together with literary scholars and translators, we will discuss Ukrainian literary classics and their relevance for today’s readers. Information materials for an international professional audience will also be available at the stand.
This year’s Ukrainian Events Programme brings together renowned Ukrainian and international writers, civil society figures, philosophers, historians, journalists, literary scholars, translators and cultural managers: Yaryna Chornohuz, Artem Tschech, Myroslav Laiuk, Maksym Butkevych, Yevheniya Kuznetsova, Tamara Hundorova, Marci Shore, Volodymyr Yermolenko, Krzysztof Czyżewski, Claudia Dathe, Roksolyana Svyato, Mariana Savka, Yuriy Gurzhy, Shamma Shahad, Kateryna Mikhalitsyna, Olaf Kühl, Alexander Kratochvil, Katharina Raabe and others.
