Bach / Beresowski: a classical music concert in Berlin
On 23 February, a unique concert will take place in the Berliner Dom that will reveal new facets of the work of the Ukrainian composer Maksym Beresowski. The works, discovered and reconstructed in the archives of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin, will be performed by the Kyiv-based ensemble Alter Ratio, along with music by his European contemporaries Carl Philipp Emanuel Bach and Baldassare Galuppi.
The concert is dedicated to the 280th anniversary of the composer’s birth and the third anniversary of the full-scale Russian attack on Ukraine.

More than twenty years ago, the music collection of the Sing-Akademie zu Berlin, which was thought to have been lost after the Second World War, was discovered in Kyiv. It contained manuscripts by Baroque and Classical composers, including members of the Bach family. In the early 2000s, the archive was transferred to Germany.
Among these manuscripts, unknown works by Maksym Beresowski were also discovered. Since his name was appropriated by Russia for many years, the rediscovery and performance of his music is an important contribution to the restoration of Ukrainian cultural heritage in a global context.
