The documentary film Tape of Time (also known as Timestamp) by Kateryna Gornostai.

The film documents everyday life in Ukrainian schools during the Russian war of aggression. It shows school life in Cherkasy, Kharkiv, Borodjanka and Bucha in the Kyiv region and captures the resilience and challenges of these communities.

It is a significant milestone: it is the first film by a female Ukrainian director to be screened in the main competition since 1997, when Kira Muratova’s ‘Three Stories’ was entered. The production is supported by the Embassy of Ukraine in Germany and the Ukrainian Institute.

The documentary ‘Special Operation’ by Oleksiy Radynskiy.

The film, which documents the occupation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant by Russian troops at the beginning of the invasion, will be shown in the Forum Expanded section.

The short film ‘In Retrospect’ by Mila Zhluktenko and Daniel Asadi Faezi.

The short film is in competition at Berlinale Shorts. The directing duo received the award at the 2023 Berlinale for their work ‘Waking up in silence’.

‘30 Days of Summer’ by Anastasia Solonevych and ‘The Earth is Flat – I Flew Around and Saw It’ by Maksym Nakonechnyi will be presented at the Berlinale Co-Production Market. A total of 35 projects from 27 countries will present their visions for future films here.

Ukrainian filmmakers are also represented in the prestigious Berlinale Talents programme: director Olga Chernykh, actress and advertising producer Alisa Kalyuzhna. They are0mong the 201 selected talents from almost 4,000 applications from 123 countries.

In addition, two international co-productions about Ukraine will be screened in the Forum section: ‘Time to the Target’ by Vitaly Mansky (Ukraine, Latvia, Czech Republic) and ‘When Lightning Flashes Over the Sea’ by Eva Neymann (Ukraine, Germany).
