Oksana Zabuzhko on stage at the Literaturhaus in Berlin as part of the “Voices from Ukraine” project

The last event in the reading series by contemporary Ukrainian authors “Voices from Ukraine 2023” with Oksana Zabuzhko will take place on November 21, 2023, at Literaturhaus Berlin.

On February 23, 2022, Oksana Zabuzhko packed a small bag to go on her first reading trip since the pandemic. The contents of the bag were minimal, as she was due to return to Kyiv after the weekend. But the very next day, Russia invaded Ukraine.

In “The Longest Book Tour”, the author describes this acute state of escape and exile, thirty years after the collapse of the Soviet Union, and devotes herself to the history of Ukraine. She herself describes the text as “a monologue addressed to the collective West”.

In conversation with Kateryna Rietz-Rakul, Director of the Ukrainian Institute in Germany, Oksana Zabuzhko will talk about her latest essay.

The event will be held in Ukrainian with simultaneous translation into German by Sofiya Onufriv.

About the project

The reading series “Voices from Ukraine” is dedicated to the question of the role of literature in times of war based on the current works of Ukrainian authors. The writers report on their current work as a reaction to the ongoing Russian war in Ukraine.

All readings will take place at the Literaturhaus Berlin and can be watched live on YouTube. You can find the relevant links on the project page.
